On Saturday, 4 July 2015, in the afternoon at 12:02, in Vilniaus district municipality, on the Vilnius-Švenčionys-Zarasai national road (kilometre 17.40), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved an Audi A6 Avant and a BMW 530D Xdrive. Two people died — a 37-year-old passenger of the Audi (later died from the injuries) and a 77-year-old passenger of the BMW (later died from the injuries). Five people were injured — the 40-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized), the 55-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized), a 12-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized), a 13-year-old passenger of the Audi (severely injured, hospitalized) and a 10-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized). Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
