On Wednesday, 2 September 2015, in the evening at 19:59, in Panevėžys, on J. Basanavičiaus street, at the junction with Aukštaičių street, a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a BMW and a Mercedes-Benz C220. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.87‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
