On Friday, 4 September 2015, in the evening at 17:54, in Utenos district municipality, on the Kupiškis–Utena national road (kilometre 48.25), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 320D, a Volvo V40 and an Audi A6. Three people were injured — the 19-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized), the 21-year-old driver of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient) and a 20-year-old passenger of the BMW (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the BMW (1 year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober.
