On Tuesday, 26 January 2016, in the evening at 17:10, in Zarasų district municipality, on the Kaunas–Zarasai–Daugpilis main road (kilometre 164.14), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Dodge Nitro and a Volkswagen Caddy. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 47-year-old driver of the Dodge (25 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations, failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
