On Sunday, 24 January 2016, in the morning at 6:30, in Kelmės district municipality, on the Kelmė–Užventis national road (kilometre 9.88), an Opel Vectra ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the Opel, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk, had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
