On Thursday, 18 February 2016, in the morning at 9:03, in Joniškio district municipality, Martyniškių village, on the Joniškis–Žagarė–Naujoji Akmenė national road, a collision while turning right occurred. The collision involved a Rover 620 and a Toyota Camry. One person died — a 15-year-old passenger of the Rover (later died from the injuries). Three people were injured — the 46-year-old driver of the Rover (hospitalized), a 16-year-old passenger of the Rover (hospitalized) and a 21-year-old passenger of the Rover (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 46-year-old driver of the Rover (20 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident there was freezing rain, a strong wind was blowing, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
