On Thursday, 5 May 2016, in the afternoon at 14:53, in Tauragės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 137.30), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and an Audi A6. Two people were injured — the 29-year-old driver of the Suzuki (hospitalized) and a 40-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 29-year-old driver of the Suzuki, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
