On Sunday, 24 July 2016, in the evening at 20:11, in Biržų district municipality, Smilgių village, on Bažnyčios street near No. 30, a MTZ ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of the MTZ (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.57‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
