On Monday, 1 August 2016, in the evening at 17:08, in Panevėžys, on J. Tilvyčio street, at the junction with Varnėnų street, a BMW 525 hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Two people were injured — a 2-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient) and a 38-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
