On Friday, 29 July 2016, in the afternoon at 11:15, in Kelmės district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 99.20), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Seat Alhambra, an Audi A6, a Peugeot 206 and an Opel Zafira. Seven people were injured — the 49-year-old driver of the Seat (treated as an outpatient), a 19-year-old passenger of the Seat (treated as an outpatient), a 3-year-old passenger of the Seat (hospitalized), a 21-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), a 23-year-old passenger of the Seat (hospitalized), a 21-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient) and the 22-year-old driver of the Audi (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 49-year-old driver of the Seat (21 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
