On Friday, 12 August 2016, in the evening at 22:50, in Šakių district municipality, on the Pilviškiai–Šakiai–Jurbarkas national road (kilometre 6.20), an Opel Vectra hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. One person died — a 29-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by a 29-year-old pedestrian, who was walking at night without reflectors (light, hi-vis vest). He was drunk (3.65‰ blood alcohol). The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
