On Sunday, 14 August 2016, in the afternoon at 11:21, in Kauno district municipality, on the Kaunas–Vandžiogala national road (kilometre 18.85), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Sharan and an Audi A4. Seven people were injured — the 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 12-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 48-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), a 43-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 23-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient), a 72-year-old passenger of the Audi (treated as an outpatient) and the 28-year-old driver of the Audi (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (14 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober.
