On Wednesday, 28 September 2016, in the afternoon at 15:55, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Valkininkų g s –Daugai–Alytus national road (kilometre 28.05), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Nissan Qashqai, a Nissan X-Trail, a Nissan Navara registered in Poland and a Heineman registered in Poland. One person died — a 70-year-old passenger of the Nissan X-Trail. Three people were injured — the 68-year-old driver of the Nissan X-Trail (hospitalized), a 46-year-old passenger of the Nissan Qashqai (treated as an outpatient) and the 59-year-old driver of the Nissan Qashqai (treated as an outpatient). All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
