On Saturday, 22 October 2016, at night at 4:37, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Babriškės–Varėna–Eišiškės national road (kilometre 2.79), an Opel rolled over. Two people were injured — the 18-year-old driver of the Opel (treated as an outpatient) and a 22-year-old passenger of the Opel (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 18-year-old driver of the Opel, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.42‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
