On Thursday, 3 November 2016, in the evening at 18:27, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Valkininkų g s –Daugai–Alytus national road (kilometre 33.50), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Corsa and a Skoda Octavia registered in Poland. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 54-year-old driver of the Opel, who committed other traffic rule violations, was driving fatigued, failed to choose a safe speed and fell asleep at the wheel. He was drunk (2.11‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, there was freezing rain, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
