On Tuesday, 27 December 2016, in the morning at 7:36, in Vilnius, on Gedimino pr., at the junction with A. Jakšto street, a Toyota Corolla Verso hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person died — a 89-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries). The accident was caused by the 56-year-old driver of the Toyota (31 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He was drunk (0.85‰ blood alcohol). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
