On Monday, 26 December 2016, in the evening at 17:43, in Kretingos district municipality, on Vilniaus street near No. 20, a BMW hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. Three people were injured — a 84-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized), a 73-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized) and a 54-year-old pedestrian (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the BMW (less than a year of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
