On Saturday, 7 January 2017, in the afternoon at 14:14, in Alytaus district municipality, on the Alytus–Simnas–Kalvarija national road (kilometre 7.90), a traffic accident occurred. The accident involved a Krone, a DAF FT XF105.460, a Volvo XC90, a Renault Premium 380 and a Koegel SN24P100. Three people were injured — a 16-year-old passenger of the Volvo (hospitalized), the 41-year-old driver of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient) and a 36-year-old passenger of the Volvo (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 48-year-old driver of the Renault (9 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance, failed to choose a safe speed and entered the oncoming traffic lane. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
