On Sunday, 22 January 2017, in the evening at 21:32, in Zarasų district municipality, on P. Širvio street near No. 3, a BMW 320 ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the BMW, who committed other traffic rule violations and failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (3.45‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
