On Friday, 24 February 2017, in the evening at around 20:00, in Tauragės district municipality, on Vytauto street, at the junction with Bažnyčių street, a vehicle hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 22-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by an unidentified person, who failed to comply with road signs or markings, committed other traffic rule violations and failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
