On Sunday, 25 June 2017, in the evening at 17:18, in Šilutės district municipality, Gaidelių village, on the Kaunas–Jurbarkas–Šilutė–Klaipėda national road (kilometre 176), an Opel Vectra Station Wagon rolled over. Five people were injured — the 45-year-old driver of the Opel (treated as an outpatient), a 55-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized), a 47-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized), a 45-year-old passenger of the Opel (hospitalized) and a 21-year-old passenger of the Opel (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Opel (22 years of driving experience), who exceeded the speed set by traffic rules or road signs. He was drunk (2.34‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
