On Sunday, 25 June 2017, in the evening at around 22:00, in Lazdijų district municipality, Mikabalių village, on the Seirijai–Gudeliai regional road (kilometre 7.90), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Audi 80 Avant and a Mazda 5. One person died — the 33-year-old driver of the Audi. Five people were injured — a 55-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized), the 57-year-old driver of the Mazda (treated as an outpatient), a 56-year-old passenger of the Mazda (hospitalized), a 44-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized) and a 30-year-old passenger of the Audi (hospitalized). The accident was caused by the 33-year-old driver of the Audi. He had no driving licence. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was twilight, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
