On Friday, 7 July 2017, in the afternoon at 14:01, in Utenos district municipality, on J. Basanavičiaus street, at the junction with Maironio street, a BMW X3 2.0 D hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 73-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 71-year-old driver of the BMW (44 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry.
