On Sunday, 13 August 2017, in the morning at 10:44, in Šilutės district municipality, on the Kvėdarna–Švėkšna–Saugos national road (kilometre 34.40), a head-on collision while overtaking occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Golf, a Nissan Primera and a Nissan X-Trail. Three people were injured — the 20-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (hospitalized), a 50-year-old passenger of the Nissan X-Trail (treated as an outpatient) and the 52-year-old driver of the Nissan X-Trail (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 20-year-old driver of the Volkswagen. He was drunk (1.14‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence.
