On Sunday, 27 August 2017, in the afternoon at around 12:00, in Plungės district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Plungė–Tauragė national road (kilometre 68.55), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Avensis, an Audi A6, an Audi A6 Allroad registered in Latvia and a Volkswagen Golf. Four people were injured — a 32-year-old passenger of the Audi A6 (treated as an outpatient), the 20-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 12-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient) and a 43-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Toyota (21 years of driving experience). All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
