On Friday, 15 September 2017, in the morning at around 7:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 53.23), a Volkswagen Passat ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (10 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
