On Monday, 18 September 2017, in the afternoon at 15:23, in Kupiškio district municipality, on the Daugpilis–Rokiškis–Panevėžys national road (kilometre 58.80), a Ford Galaxy ran off the road. The collision involved a Volvo V70 and the Ford. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 53-year-old driver of the Volvo (12 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when crossing an intersection. He was drunk (2.88‰ blood alcohol) and fled the scene. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
