On Sunday, 19 November 2017, in the evening at 21:20, in Mažeikių district municipality, on Žemaitijos street near No. 15A, a BMW hit an obstacle. One person died — a 68-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 44-year-old driver of the BMW (26 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
