On Friday, 5 January 2018, in the evening at around 20:00, in Varėnos district municipality, on Savanorių street near No. 11, an Opel Astra-G-CC hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 19-year-old driver of the Opel (2 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober.
