On Friday, 19 January 2018, in the evening at 18:41, in Tauragės district municipality, on the Ryga–Šiauliai–Tauragė–Kaliningradas main road (kilometre 141.80), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved an Opel Frontera B and a Volkswagen Touran. The accident was caused by the 52-year-old driver of the Opel (32 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
