On Wednesday, 7 March 2018, in the evening at 18:26, in Vilniaus district municipality, on the Vilnius–Utena main road (kilometre 28), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a MAN, a Honda Jazz and a DAF FAN 75CF.250 registered in Latvia. Two people died — the 36-year-old driver of the Honda and a 25-year-old passenger of the Honda. Two people were injured — a 1-year-old passenger of the Honda (treated as an outpatient) and a 50-year-old passenger of the Honda (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 62-year-old driver of the MAN (22 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. All drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was twilight, there was a blizzard, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
