On Tuesday, 3 April 2018, in the morning at 7:40, in Kauno district municipality, Pagirių village, on the Kaunas–Marijampolė–Suvalkai main road (kilometre 16.55), on a bridge, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 320D and a DAF FA 45.150 registered in Poland. One person died — the 23-year-old driver of the BMW. Two people were injured — a 22-year-old passenger of the BMW (severely injured, hospitalized) and the 26-year-old driver of the DAF (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 23-year-old driver of the BMW (5 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was icy. The speed limit on this section is 70 km/h.
