On Friday, 11 May 2018, at night at 2:32, in Utenos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Utena main road (kilometre 93.25), a Volkswagen Sharan registered in Latvia ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 50-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (18 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
