On Saturday, 19 May 2018, in the evening at 22:46, in Šakių district municipality, on the Pilviškiai–Šakiai–Jurbarkas national road (kilometre 9.52), a Volkswagen Passat hit a pedestrian away from any crossing. Two people died — a 29-year-old pedestrian (later died from the injuries) and a 24-year-old pedestrian. The driver was sober.
