On Sunday, 29 July 2018, in the evening at 22:28, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Kužiai–Verbūnai–Gruzdžiai regional road (kilometre 8.99), an Opel Zafira ran off the road. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 52-year-old driver of the Opel (20 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (1.65‰ blood alcohol). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
