On Thursday, 9 August 2018, in the afternoon at 11:40, in Varėnos district municipality, on the Vilnius–Varėna–Gardinas main road (kilometre 79.89), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved an Opel Astra and a Volkswagen Vento. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 28-year-old driver of the Opel (10 years of driving experience), who failed to give way when changing direction. Both drivers were sober.
