On Wednesday, 29 August 2018, in the evening at 17:13, in Vilniaus district municipality, on the Vilnius-Švenčionys-Zarasai national road (kilometre 26), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat, an Audi and a Skoda Octavia registered in Poland. Three people were injured — a 25-year-old passenger of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient), the 29-year-old driver of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient) and a 73-year-old passenger of the Skoda (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 45-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (27 years of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. All drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry.
