On Thursday, 27 September 2018, in the afternoon at around 14:00, in Šakių district municipality, on Tilto street near No. 22, a Subaru Forester hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 9-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 63-year-old driver of the Subaru (24 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
