On Friday, 7 December 2018, in the morning at around 9:00, in Šiaulių district municipality, on the Šiauliai–Gruzdžiai–Naujoji Akmenė national road (kilometre 13.65), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Peugeot 307 and an Opel Astra-G. Two people were injured — the 40-year-old driver of the Peugeot (treated as an outpatient) and a 39-year-old passenger of the Opel (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 40-year-old driver of the Peugeot (10 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered.
