On Saturday, 8 December 2018, in the evening at around 17:00, in Šiauliai, on Vytauto street near No. 108, a Jeep Grand Cherokee hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person died — a 81-year-old pedestrian. The accident was caused by the 57-year-old driver of the Jeep (30 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
