On Monday, 4 March 2019, at night at 0:22, in Tauragės district municipality, on the Tauragė–Pašventys national road (kilometre 19.88), a BMW 316 ran off the road. Three people were injured — the 34-year-old driver of the BMW (hospitalized, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 23-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 19-year-old passenger of the BMW (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 34-year-old driver of the BMW, who failed to choose a safe speed. He was drunk (2.27‰ blood alcohol) and had no driving licence. A 23-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk (0.39‰). A 19-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk (1.46‰). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
