On Saturday, 9 March 2019, in the evening at 19:15, in Mažeikių district municipality, Urvikių village, on saulės street, at the junction with aušros kelias street, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 740 registered in Latvia and a car. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the BMW, who entered the oncoming traffic lane. He was drunk (2.58‰ blood alcohol), had no driving licence and fled the scene. A 47-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk (2.50‰). According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
