On Tuesday, 5 May 2020, in the evening at around 17:00, in Pasvalio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Pasvalys–Ryga main road (kilometre 58.89), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Corolla, an Audi 80 and a Volkswagen Passat. Three people died — the 42-year-old driver of the Audi (later died from the injuries, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 55-year-old passenger of the Toyota (was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 48-year-old passenger of the Toyota. Three people were injured — the 43-year-old driver of the Toyota (treated as an outpatient), a 33-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient) and a 53-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of the Toyota (25 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. All drivers were sober. A 55-year-old passenger of the Toyota was drunk (2.39‰). A 48-year-old passenger of the Toyota was drunk (2.66‰). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
