On Tuesday, 5 May 2020, in the evening at around 17:00, in Pasvalio district municipality, on the Panevėžys–Pasvalys–Ryga main road (kilometre 58.89), a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a Toyota Corolla, an Audi 80 and a Volkswagen Passat. Three people died — the 42-year-old driver of the Audi (later died from the injuries, was not wearing a seatbelt), a 55-year-old passenger of the Toyota (was not wearing a seatbelt) and a 48-year-old passenger of the Toyota. The accident was caused by the 43-year-old driver of the Toyota (25 years of driving experience), who committed other traffic rule violations. All drivers were sober. A 55-year-old passenger of the Toyota was drunk (2.39‰). A 48-year-old passenger of the Toyota was drunk (2.66‰). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was dry.
