On Saturday, 13 June 2020, at night at 0:48, in Lazdijų district municipality, Šventežerio town, on the Alytus–Seirijai–Lazdijai national road (kilometre 36.20), a collision while moving in the same direction occurred. The collision involved a BMW and a Yamaha. One person died — the 18-year-old driver of the Yamaha. One person was injured — the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (treated as an outpatient, was not wearing a seatbelt). The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the BMW (1 year of driving experience), who failed to keep a safe distance. He was drunk (2.31‰ blood alcohol). A 22-year-old passenger of the BMW was drunk. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
