On Thursday, 7 January 2021, in the morning at 8:30, in Tauragės district municipality, on Šilalės street, at the junction with V. Kudirkos street, a Volvo S40 hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 78-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 60-year-old driver of the Volvo (28 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. She fled the scene. The driver was sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was overcast, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
