On Friday, 8 January 2021, in the evening at around 17:00, in Širvintų district municipality, on the Vilnius–Panevėžys (d. pusė) main road (kilometre 46), a collision with a stationary vehicle occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Transporter and a Volkswagen Polo. Two people were injured — the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Transporter (treated as an outpatient) and the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Polo (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 24-year-old driver of the Volkswagen Transporter (5 years of driving experience), who failed to choose a safe speed. Both drivers were sober. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, it was snowing, the road surface was snow-covered. The speed limit on this section is 110 km/h.
