On Sunday, 22 August 2021, at night at 4:27, in Mažeikių district municipality, on the Mažeikiai–Laižuva regional road (kilometre 11.20), a BMW 525 rolled over. No one was hurt in the accident. The accident was caused by the 21-year-old driver of the BMW, who violated overtaking rules. He had no driving licence and fled the scene. Both drivers were sober. The 27-year-old driver of an Audi A4 Avant had no driving licence. According to the register, the at-fault driver's vehicle had no compulsory civil-liability insurance (TPVCA). At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was unlit, the weather was clear, the road surface was dry. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
