On Friday, 1 October 2021, in the evening at 17:43, in Elektrėnų municipality, on the Jonava–Žasliai–Kalniniai Mijaugonys national road (kilometre 44.14), a collision while turning left (U-turning) occurred. The collision involved a Volkswagen Passat and a Honda Civic. One person died — a 87-year-old passenger of the Honda (later died from the injuries). Three people were injured — the 35-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient), a 30-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (hospitalized) and the 58-year-old driver of the Honda (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 35-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (17 years of driving experience), who failed to comply with road signs or markings. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was raining, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 90 km/h.
