On Thursday, 2 December 2021, in the afternoon at around 15:00, in Kretingos district municipality, on Vilniaus street near No. 2B, a Smart Fortwo Coupe hit a pedestrian at a pedestrian crossing. One person was injured — a 13-year-old pedestrian (treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 26-year-old driver of the Smart (7 years of driving experience), who failed to fulfil pedestrian duties. He fled the scene. The driver was sober. At the time of the accident it was snowing, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
