On Wednesday, 22 December 2021, at night at 23:01, in Vilnius, on Olandų street near No. 16, a head-on collision occurred. The collision involved a BMW 5ER Reihe and a Volkswagen. One person died — a 36-year-old passenger of the BMW (later died from the injuries). Three people were injured — the 25-year-old driver of the BMW (treated as an outpatient), the 19-year-old driver of the Volkswagen (treated as an outpatient) and a 20-year-old passenger of the Volkswagen (severely injured, treated as an outpatient). The accident was caused by the 25-year-old driver of the BMW (7 years of driving experience), who entered the oncoming traffic lane. Both drivers were sober. At the time of the accident it was dark, the road was lit, the weather was clear, the road surface was wet. The speed limit on this section is 50 km/h.
